A Tuckahoe Plantation Wedding in Early Fall
A Tuckahoe Plantation Wedding is one you will never forget. It’s filled with southern wedding traditions like burying bourbon and it’s also one of my personal favorite wedding venues. This Richmond VA venue has so many beautiful spots for a first look, or family photos and the spots for couples portraits are endless and absolutely stunning. There are nearly 6 tailored gardens each with their own unique features from tall zinnias to little victory garden sheds with moss-covered roofs.
Tuckahoe Plantation is in the south and as such there are a few southern wedding traditions that are pretty popular here. As a published Virginia Wedding Photographer, I see quite a bit. One of these southern wedding traditions is my favorite though. Can you guess which one? Burying a bottle of bourbon. You can read more about this tradition here, but basically the engaged couple visits their venue exactly one month prior to the wedding and bury a bottle of bourbon. Then on their wedding day, they dig it up and chug away. Sidenote every couple I have photographed doing this has told me that the bourbon tastes so much better too. So if you are planning your wedding here, there’s a spot dedicated specifically for burying bourbon.
There are so many beautiful spots in Virginia to have your wedding and being a destination Virginia Wedding Photographer I have been lucky to shoot all over the state. Very few come close to Tuckahoe Plantation weddings though. There is so much history here and the outdoor space is utilized in so many beautiful different ways. Cocktail hours here are always a hit. There is so much beauty for your guests to enjoy. They will love sipping on cold cocktails surrounded by the beautiful well-kept gardens.
